As some of you may know, MotoSnoop is a free VIN-checking service. Until recently, inputting a VIN would yield a full vehicle history report, akin to CarFax. Now, however, you get some basic information and this message:
“Currently, we are unable to deliver full vehicle history reports. The above VIN check is accurate and provides minimal details of the car you are interested in, but at this time, we cannot provide you with specifics about this vehicle’s accident, lien or title history. We apologize for any inconvenience.”
Anyone know what happened?

Most likely, MotoSnoop uses a car dealer’s Autocheck account to perform checks. I think that whichever dealer they were using found out, and probably found a way to close the backdoor.

Damn! It was super useful. I thought it was legitimate.

I know. It helped so much with sketchy ads on Autotrader. I guess we’ll just have to wait for another similar site to appear.

In hindsight, it was much too good to be true.
